Get to Know The Best Dance Shows this Christmas 2018

The holiday season is always the perfect time to take in some fabulous shows which is why we’ve put together a selection of our top picks for you to enjoy this year. Traditionally, the festive season is a time for families, so it should come as no surprise that most of our picks are suitable for the kids too.

Christmas Spectacular- Radio City Rockettes

This Christmas musical has become a real classic. It’s been running since 1932 and has lost none of its charm. It’s a combination of song, dance and humor that will leave the whole family enthralled. Enjoy old songs like “Rag Doll” and “New York at Christmas” combined with new tech including 3D projections.

The Nutcracker- New York City Ballet

Introduce your kids to this classic ballet that’s had a run of sixty-three years! They’ll be spellbound by the sight of ninety dancers. George Balanchine’s spectacular choreography together with the talent of over sixty musicians makes this an unforgettable show. The kids will love the magic Christmas tree that grows from twelve to forty feet high. Stunning costumes complete the spectacle.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas- Dr. Seuss

Who doesn’t know and love Dr. Seuss? The New York Times’ review raved, “One hundred times better than any bedtime story!” The show tells the story of a miserable Grinch who tries to destroy the spirit of Christmas. Being a musical, it’s full of gems like “Welcome Christmas” and “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” Read your kids the story before going to the show and they’ll sit mesmerized throughout.

The Magic Flute

This classic opera was composed by Mozart shortly before he died. It’s a wonderful way to introduce your kids to the joys of opera. This new rendition of it uses a unique mixture of animation, song and dialogue. The whole family will love the story of Tamino who is sent forth by the Queen of the Night to bring her daughter back. The story traces the age-old tug of war between light and dark, good and evil.

All is Calm- The Christmas Truce of 1914

This is a moving story that brings a part of history to life. It showcases the real-life drama that happened during the First World War at Christmas time. Allied and German soldiers observed a cease fire so that they could celebrate Christmas. It’s a remarkably moving story of the goodness of man in the face of war. This beautiful musical is sure to be a winner these holidays.

Magic of the Holidays- The Illusionists

If you fancy a bit of “real” magic, you won’t go wrong with this show. The illusions will leave you stunned and wondering how on earth they’re done. Be entertained by a superb cast of expert entertainers who specialize in mentalism, escapology, stage illusions and more.

The Eight- Reindeer Monologues

Should you fancy something a little more adult, you'll love this hilarious bit of satire. Especially if you’re tired of the usual Christmas fare of mangers and shepherds. The characters are Santa’s reindeer who are indulging in a nice bit of North Pole gossip. They discuss a range of issues, from Mrs. Claus’ tendency to overindulge to Santa’s tendency towards bestiality. This very dark comedy is definitely not for children but deals, in a very clever way, with the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace. The set is strikingly simple, with just a Christmas tree and a few other props. That’s all that’s needed though, as the witty dialogue will capture your attention from start to finish.

Frozen- The Musical

Every little girl has heard of Disney’s Frozen. The story follows two sisters whose relationship has been split by a dark family secret. One of them leaves on a journey of epic proportions to try to reunite her family. The other delves inwards to draw strength from within. The spectacular musical version showing this Christmas season uses a wondrous combination of gorgeous sets, special effects, stunning costumes and more. Children younger than four years of age should not be taken, but eight and upwards is fine. The show plays right through from now into January, so you’ve no excuse to miss it.

The festive season can be relied on to provide some truly outstanding range of holiday shows, and 2018 is no exception. You’re sure to find something all the family can enjoy. And if you need something to help you get in the Broadway mood, take a look at these glitzy, glamorous showbiz outfits.
